When we first saw this property, we weren’t that crazy about it. While the house is pleasant enough from the exterior, the interior is just very oddly laid out. And the property is oceanfront, but it’s also right on notorious Truck Beach. The pool is just plain odd.
That’s why the property was on the market for so long. It was originally listed in late 2014 for a whopping $13 million. And it sat for long years. About a year ago, the property was relisted by Jackie Dunphy, Greg Schmidt, and Tom Griffith at Corcoran for $8.75 million; the price was then cut to $7.9 million in April. The interiors were refreshed and restaged and looked much better.
The house has an interesting history: built around 1930, it was used as a US Army “cottage type” fire control station during WWII. The house also featured on the “Ugly Baby” episode of Seinfeld. There are four ensuite bedrooms in 4000 square feet of space.
Earlier this month, as reported by our friends at Curbed Hamptons, the property closed for a mere $5.725 million. Whoa. Whatever one’s opinion of the interiors or the pool or the location, that’s an amazing deal for 1.37 acres on the ocean in Amagansett with 228 feet of frontage. Also nice: the property borders on reserve. Congratulations to the lucky new owner!
