Pond House is a stunning waterfront mansion in East Hampton originally designed (so they say) by Stanford White and recently renovated by luxury builder Jeffrey Colle. It was reported a week ago (first by Curbed) that the house recently sold for just about $26 million to unknown buyers. We here at Behind the Hedges scoff at “unknown buyers,” as reliable intel had informed us that the buyers were Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Wow! The music supercouple has been known to summer in the Hamptons, for example renting the Farrells’ Sandcastle one year, but have never purchased. We’re excited that they will be spending more time out here.
Now the details. Located at 81 Briar Patch Road on Georgica Pond, the property went on the market back in 2009 with a $39.5 million asking price. Jeffrey Colle had extensively renovated, even famously rotating the house 90 degrees so that the living room faced west over the pond instead of north.
The interiors are simply lavish, including hand-carved heated marble tubs, boiserie by French craftsmen, and parquet de Versailles floors. The 12,000 square foot house boasts seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Outside, there’s a pondside pool and spa and a guest cottage. The plot is two acres with 203 feet of frontage on the pond, and is next to 17 acres of reserve.
Congrats to the Carters! And welcome, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, to the Hamptons. You know where to send our housewarming evite, we trust.
