A Magic Compound in Westhampton Beach with Croquet Court

westhampton

We’ve seen a lot of unusual game features in Hamptons real estate–a putting green on the roof, a tennis court on a roof, bocce courts, squash courts, mini golf courses–but this is the first one we remember with a professional croquet court. (There are professional croquet players?) Well, this property, known as Palmetto, sports one on its two acres, with a viewing pavilion, of course. If you get tired of croquet, there’s also a 50 foot heated gunite pool and a tennis court.

The property is nicely located between the Westhampton Village Beach and Main Street shops. We’re not usually fans of Mediterranean style houses in the Hamptons–this isn’t the Med and we have our own native styles better suited to our climate–but this one is from the 1890s so it’s in good, restrained taste. The stairway with wrought iron rails is attractive rather than pretentious, and there are five bedrooms and 3.5 baths. Not enough space? There’s also a two-bedroom, 1.5 bath guest cottage sited among lavender plants.

Asking price for this magical property is $3.577 million, which seems eminently reasonable to us. It’s represented by Marcia Altman at Brown Harris Stevens.
