On Friday, December 2, Douglas Elliman agent Melissa Pintauro hosted a gathering to launch a Dress for Success clothing drive, which is continuing through the Friday before Christmas at her firm’s Sag Harbor office.
The event sought to bring attention to the Dress for Success organization, which empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive at work and in life.
Brookhaven Town Commissioner of Housing and Women’s Services, Diana Weir, was on hand at the gathering to discuss Dress For Success’s efforts in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Since starting operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to almost 145 cities in 21 countries and has helped more than 925,000 women work towards self-sufficiency. Locally, the organization just dressed their 5,000th client.
Thanks to the leadership of Pintauro and the efforts of many Douglas Elliman employees, and their families and friends, more than 100 items have already been donated to the international not-for-profit organization.
Pintauro will continue collecting Dress for Success clothing donations through Douglas Elliman’s Sag Harbor office, at 138 Main Street, through December 23.
Acceptable items for donation include suits, dresses, pants, blouses, sweaters, jackets, shoes and other work appropriate clothing, along with accessories, such as pocketbooks and costume jewelry. In the winter, coats, boots, scarfs and gloves are also accepted.
Jeans, capris, t-shirts and summer clothing will not be accepted.
