Welcome to our new feature in which we interview local personalities: agents, architects, interior designers, builders, anyone who plays a part in the world of Hamptons real estate. Want to get in on the fun? Drop us a line!

Carl Benincasa is Regional Manager for the Hamptons at Douglas Elliman. A Sag Harbor native, Carl is currently a North Sea resident.

What do you do for Douglas Elliman?

As Regional Manager for the Hamptons, I oversee the operations of nine offices from Westhampton to Montauk. I don’t sell real estate; my job is to create a friendly, empowering and supportive structure for those who do. I feel fortunate to be able to live and work here on the East End.

How did you get into real estate?

My background is in real estate law. I was an attorney for Southampton Town, specializing in planning and development. I also had my own law firm, where I worked in land use, real estate acquisition and sales, zoning, and contract law.

Why do you like working in this field?

It’s an active field that, at some point, touches everyone’s life in one way or another. Buying or selling a home is a huge moment in a person’s life and it’s rewarding to help those who help people achieve their dreams. It’s also one of the primary industries on the East End, which creates an atmosphere where no two days are the same and a fresh challenge always awaits you.

What’s the biggest surprise that you’ve encountered so far?

My experience with Douglas Elliman has completely dispelled any negative perceptions that some may have of real estate agents. As a lawyer by trade, negative perceptions are something I can empathize with. Elliman’s agents are incredible, community conscious people. They’re a great group of professionals who are not only amazing at their jobs, but are also good people. It’s refreshing.

What are you planning for 2018?

I look forward to expanding Douglas Elliman’s involvement in the community, personally and as a leading force in real estate. We are known for its strong support of many local non-profit organizations, and that’s something we are keen on building even more. In addition to supporting Southampton Hospital, The Retreat, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Parrish Art Museum, Hampton Classic and several other worthy organizations, in 2017 we added sponsorship of the Hamptons Take Two Film Festival and are embarking on even more exciting partnerships in 2018. It’s wonderful to see how we can all make a difference.
