The Brooks-Park Home and Studios in East Hampton is one of 11 properties identified as the most endangered historic places in America, according to a new list from the National Trust of Historic Preservation.

Even though Matter passed away more than 20 years ago, the interior of her former 1950s home in Springs still reflects her artistic aesthetic.

Mercedes Ruehl put her house on the market in August 2021 with Jackie Lowey of Saunders & Associates and it quickly found a buyer.

“Industrial flourishes like the robust metal frames, doors with ribbed glass inserts, canvas roller shades and antique push-button switches add substance and durability,” says Dana Trotter of Sotheby’s International Realty.

Dating back to 1799, this renovated waterfront home in Springs sits on 1.5 lush acres at the edge of Accabonc Harbor and is being offered for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Dan and Charlotte DeSmet, the bar and restaurant’s owners since 2017, are selling the business and its contents with a long-term lease in place.
