Always wanted to be the next Mies van der Rohe? Now’s your chance. Southampton architectural engineering firm Chiffert Engineering P.C., together with local agency Century 21 Agawam Town and Village Realty, is hosting a competition for a residential commission in Hampton Bays. The 2.2 acre property is at 1 Oceanview Road, overlooking Shinnecock Bay.
You must design two single-family homes to built on adjacent lots. The site is hilly—always tricky architecturally—so one house will be built on the lower side and one on an upper side. The competition is being promoted to local architectural schools, but anyone—yes, you—can participate. Of course, your design will have to conform to stiff requirements regarding zoning, drainage, and so on. Want to see the site in person? A site visit is planned for April 28 for all registered competitors, where all of the site data as well as the evaluation criteria will be provided.
What will you win? A prize of $1,800 as well as a 3-day romantic weekend in Hampton Bays (yeah, we’re trying not to make jokes too). Plus, of course, bragging rights.
Rather just be a juror? Contact either Marc Chiffert or Denise McCauley at Agawam Town and Village Realty to express interest. Jurors still being sought include a local artist, broker, architect, and a community activist.
Good luck!
