This interesting listing, which includes a generous five acres of land, first hit the market back in August 2015, asking a whopping $11.995 million. Now it’s been relisted, repped by Jackie Dunphy and Greg Schmidt at Corcoran, and is asking a much saner $7.595 million.

So what do you get for that? The aforementioned 5.3 acres in northern Amagansett, a really charming oval pool, and the house. The house was built in the early 1950s for Samuel Rubin, the founder of Faberge cosmetics. He hired Alfred Scheffer to design it and it retains many of its original Scheffer touches, such as the brick fireplace, bluestone floors, and cedar ceiling beams. But the house was added on to and modernized rcently with solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, central steam humidification, internet controlled thermostats, a Sonos sound system, and a backup generator.

Now the house is 5500 square feet with four bedrooms and six baths and there’s also a three-car garage with a caretaker’s apartment.

Personally, we’d love to see some midcentury furniture, accessories and artwork to funk up the space. And the $4.4 price drop has got to be enticing to buyers. Guess we’ll see what happens.
